Modern Humans

Early hominids brains and anatomy are in many ways similar to ancestral non-human hominids but still very close to modern humans compared to other organisms on Earth.

Earth (Γαῖα, Terra, земной шар, 地球, Dünya,  الكرة الأرضية) is the third planet from the Sun, the only astronomical object known to harbor such beautiful and varied life. Life takes many form and Earth landscapes have been shaped by it over the years.

Gibbons for example, are masters of their primary mode of locomotion, brachiation, swinging from branch to branch for distances of up to 15 meters, at speeds as high as 55 km/h. They are the fastest and most agile of all tree-dwelling, nonflying mammals. The gibbons' ball-and-socket joints allow them unmatched speed and accuracy when swinging through trees. Nonetheless, their mode of transportation can lead to hazards when a branch breaks or a hand slips, and researchers estimate that the majority of gibbons suffer bone fractures one or more times during their lifetimes.

Hominids of the genus homo used fire about 200,000 years ago, occupied much of Eurasia, and gave rise to anatomically modern Homo sapiens, our well known successful "earth-made"  architectural assemblage beauty, one of the most complex organism !

They began to exhibit evidence of behavioral modernity around 50,000 years ago, and migrated in successive waves to occupy all but the smallest, driest, and coldest lands..

"Hey friendly organism, which domain did you pick?"
"Oh you know.... I wanted to choose eukaryote but the teacher was one of those friendly and attaching archaea so i tagged along"

An organism may be defined as an assembly of molecules functioning as a more or less stable whole that exhibits the properties of life.

There has been controversy about the best way to define the organism and indeed about whether or not such a definition is necessary. Several contributions are responses to the suggestion that the category of "organism" may well not be adequate in biology. Many sources also propose definitions that exclude viruses and theoretically possible man-made non-organic life forms.

Viruses are defined as being dependent on the biochemical machinery of a host cell for reproduction and ultimately survival. Much like a virus is dependent on the biochemical machinery of a host cell, humans are dependent on the biochemical machinery that is Earth (Γαῖα, Terra, земной шар, 地球, Dünya,  الكرة الأرضية) to survive.

Oxygen deficiency, an unfortunate gene mutation on any organism, a volcanic-meteor related event or just humans... could end life on earth as we know it, much like it happened in the past.
Obviously one could argue that we now have the science and means to survive without Earth but we wouldn't save everyone, we're already not saving everyone.

"Potential direct impacts to locally affected peoples are "unknown" at this time, but remain of concern"

Now earth isn't going away quite anytime soon and it's life-bearing properties should be embraced and improved in all possible ways, it's diversity in life forms makes it a jewel compared to most planets we know of and should be considered, including humans.

We exist as a group with with a past of diverse biological, regional, cultural and linguistic heritage but also as individuals. One could argue that nonhuman primates have hierarchies, birds have hierarchies, revolutionary egalitarian societies have hierarchies, hierarchy isn’t going away.

But let's not justify existing structures of social dominance by deferring to the hard-wiring of ancient crustaceans ! (in the words of Park MacDougald referring to the words of John Semley referring to a well-hearted but worn out psychologist out there on youtube #copyright$)

Even though hierarchy was around million years ago, the intense race for resources with drastic long lasting consequences on our planet, our behaviours and our interactions really started only "recently" (let's say a few thousands years ago).

We reached a crucial point a few years ago with the arrival of internet, allowing instant global communication, interaction and socialisation, accelerating exponentially the technological means at our disposal.

Ideally we could use a language enriched by all other's languages meanings to simplify and improve the efficiency and depth of communication across the planet, what we have achieved so far is more of a mosaic, beautiful and diverse but adding to the complexity of information and communication.

One could argue we may well be in the direction of being able to be the perfect multi-organism that Earth needs to stay sustainable, healthy and happy.

We could also be doing the opposite...

Happiness and healthiness could be defined as having certain needs fulfilled.

Water, food and air quality
Shelter and safety
Education and health care
Energy and freedom

And as long as those are not provided for all humans it is unlikely our capitalist model is gonna drive us to dedicate time and resources on cleaning the micro plastic on the bed of the oceans or the air in the atmosphere beyond our apartment.

The real political questions are, which hierarchies are legitimate and fair? Which ones incentivize good conduct and allow individuals, societies and earth to flourish? Which ones minimize suffering?

Our current system put the market as the driver but the true market values hide behind a layer of hidden costs and corruption which renders the system infectious. Our attempts at bandaging with charity are causing unwanted side effects... Government funded programs are reaching a point where solving hunger is far beyond their reach unless private corporation resources comes into play.

We know we have the resources to feed everyone on the planet and yet the improvement that were seen in early 21 century actually started to reverse since 2008...
Suffering and misery can make a proportional monster out of all of us......

Are we gonna keep summoning our lobsters brains, fighting and raping at the borders or under the counter, in the unrealistic search of a concept of power, the unending taste of bitter?
Are we gonna learn to respect and tolerate each-others, being a better basis for teamwork, understanding and management of our planet?

Regulating market sickness by forcing transparent costs publication and better customer awareness.
Some have experimented with respecting codes of human rights and basic income ... mental well being, contentment, felicity, respect, purpose...

Sustainable "stability or growth" in a peaceful and cooperative environment.

Humans, I hope one day you will be truly beautiful on your radiant planet.

Sincerly yours,

From a druid that thinks the metempsychosis as defined by "the souls do not perish, but after death pass from one to another" is a valid metaphorical image for the efficiency of education and transmission of knowledge humans started a few thousands years ago.
Other interpretations remain to be determined.

I will not say happy hunting but rather "may your kleptoparasitism be respectful and sustainable, may the light be with you. "

As far as "wanting them in your life"

By choosing to not love them anymore (and love IS a choice, more on this later), you give up the right to "have them in your life." Whether or not they choose to stay friends with you is entirely up to them, as it SHOULD be. You are not at all entitled to their friendship, their time or their support ... understand and accept that there is no little trick or manipulative way to break up with them in such a way that they choose to stay in your life. And you should let them freely choose to stay in your life or cut you off. Let them handle the breakup on their own terms ... it would be dishonorable to lead them on and continue to see them if you know full well they still have feelings for you. It is dishonorable and disrespectful to enjoy the fringe benefits of another's company while knowing that you cannot or will not reciprocate their feelings.

Love is a choice. Once you get over the initial rush of falling in love, you must actively choose to love that person day in and day out, which means putting forth some effort in spending time with that person, tending to your bond, and making (rewarding!) sacrifices for him or her. You might have to actively do some work and adhere to some guidelines to make it work. But doing work and contributing is always worth it ... think of how good you would feel if you worked hard to create a garden, and all of the soil preparation and daily tending has led to a beautiful growth of beauty and sustenance.

You will never be happy in life and love if you expect to always passively consume, passively consume, passively consume, and just sit back and reap benefits without doing anything. So much in our western culture encourages us to take or consume without balancing the benefit with a challenge. Being in a relationship isn't like watching TV, where you just passively consume all the time. Nothing in life is worth it unless you put time and effort into it.

What does working on a relationship look like? Asking your partner how their day was or listening to them, when you'd rather be doing something else. Thinking of them and bringing them surprises and gifts or dinner, even after you've become used to their daily presence. Making an active choice to serve them every day. Feeling good about yourself when they show appreciation for the fact that you've taken time and effort out to do something for them.

Maybe you've stopped loving your girlfriend/boyfriend for a good reason and they are behaving in ways such that they are no longer worthy of your love. Fine. The rules are still the same: be honest, be real and take action to sever the contract. The sooner you end things, the sooner you can both move on.

There is no way to handle a breakup in such a way to guarantee that no one's feelings get hurt, and all parties want to be friends. That's just how it is ... some problems in life require you to face the pain, so stop avoiding it and just do it. Because it's the right thing and the adult thing to do. And you don't get to do things over in life — you have one chance to handle this correctly, and yes it will probably involve pain — but you can choose whether you look back on this and think 'I did the best, right thing I could do,' or 'I was a real jerk and strung that person along.' Best of luck.

[I did not write this myself but I largely agree to all of it, it's why I posted it here]

EU Foreign Affairs Council

Paris, Syria & Migration discussed at EU Foreign Affairs Council

"A political solution is the only possible way to defeat Da'esh (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq", she said. The process has started in Vienna and the international community is working on three things in parallel; starting a political process; working on a ceasefire (except against terrorist groups); and humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.

Events in Paris

Events of this Friday 13 (November 2015) were clearly linked to the french implication in Syria, we can't just move on and try to shake off the shock and sorrow. let's not forget it. https://youtu.be/n_oKrN6JVwk?t=14s
Translation of the testimony goes "One of the attacker simply said "you're gonna pay for what you do to Syrians now".

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/assad-says-paris-attacks-result-from-frances-aiding-rebels-in-syria/2015/11/14/287f7576-8adc-11e5-bd91-d385b244482f_story.html

And we're surprised of revenge ?  It isn't pretty and it's not how you solve problems but it's been the reason attacks like this happened on our planet. But is there a remedy to the crave for vengeance? Will we ever turn pages without having innocent's blood spilled?

We clearly have a long way to go, but in the short term one can only promote values of peaceful coexistence. ‪#‎PeaceOnEarth‬

#‎PeaceOnEarth‬

It is our responsibility to teach everyone how to belong to earth and not religions & nations delimited by borders drawn through war and economy. All this nonsense about praying and showing off french colors is just another factor into the hate escalator. let us change our cultures and mentalities now to promote values of peaceful coexistence. ‪#‎PeaceOnEarth‬

Dota 2 reborn

Valve officially switched the main Dota 2 client to the source 2 / reborn engine

Today we are rolling out a preload of the Reborn Update to all players that have not previously downloaded it. The Reborn Update will be coming to the main client for all Dota 2 players in the next day or two.
blog.dota2.com

This update brings great improvements to the interface and game engine but does it at a cost.
Nowadays a game like Dota 2 is like football in term of competitive & casual scene .. just picture having all the stadiums on earth rebuilt with new materials, it's likely some events get disrupted at least for a little while. And whether you're part of the professional scene, playing casually with your town's team or friends at the small stadium or even just spectating, you will be affected.

Valve has kept on maintaining the source 1 engine for a few months, mostly for the competitive scene, while source 2 was already in "beta", hopefully making the transition as smooth as possible ... Yesterday the Source 1 engine files were finally removed, meaning the end of it's effective life.

By not really releasing Dota 2 (it's still in beta!) Valve is mostly saying what model they chose.
Continuous delivery isn't something new to the software environment and it's definitely the best model to support a multiplayer Action RTS that strives for balance, game-play and User Interface perfection. We could argue it's even something we use in sports like football that is materialized by organisations like FIFA who contributes (sometimes questionably) to maintaining a coherent system.

For now outside a few crashes and bugs the loss is toward replays, if you bought a tournament ticket and expected to watch the replays later you'll find out source 2 can't open source 1 replays .. hopefully this will get addressed. I'm not a materialist and i'm sure we will be fine without all those replays but it's certainly a loss. Yet another loss of raw content. We could talk about content, copyright, patents and world heritage but it probably deserves it's own post.
